5/26/2023 0 Comments Theme hospital![]() If there are an adequate amount of radiators, patients get warm and they will frequent any well-placed drink machine, an activity which will help to line the hospital's pockets. If there are not enough radiators in the hospital, the patients are uncomfortable and fewer show up at its front door. One thing I was completely frustrated with was the seemingly constant attention that had to be paid to some very small things. However, there are only so many times that one can be amused by seeing a Bloaty Head patient get deflated, or by seeing a Slack Tongue patient have his taste buds removed by a Slicer Machine. ![]() Part of the "treat" of this title is supposed to be watching how the cures take place. I was mildly amused with the title's "bathroom humor" for a little while, but then, it got old. However, I found that the entire premise wore thin quite quickly. In general, all this may sound rather entertaining. However, the graphics are very well done, so fans of this sort of animation may appreciate this aspect of the product much more than I did. ![]() This title is packed with cartoon-style graphics, a type of animation with which I am not particularly enamored. By combining these elements, the player must construct as efficient a hospital as possible, curing various ailments and depositing fees in the hospital's coffers, while trying to not run out of funds. Certain creature comforts are also available for purchase, like drink machines, benches, fire extinguishers and radiators. The hospital must be staffed by employees such as doctors, nurses, handymen, and receptionists. In order for his hospital to heal patients, the player must build rooms that can perform certain diagnostic and curative functions. The premise behind Theme Hospital is that the player is running a hospital which must stay within budgetary constraints, while having to heal the highest number of patients at the same time. I stumbled across Theme Hospital, and since Bullfrog's name was on the package, and because the images on the box looked rather entertaining, I decided to buy it. Unfortunately, I owned just about every decent sim that was on the market at that time, and I couldn't wait until SimCity 3000 was released. A batch of screenshots of Two Point Hospital can be see in the gallery below. In early 1998, I was dying to play a new sim. You can watch an informercial-style trailer for Two Point Hospital above, which focuses on the treatment of a man afflicted with “light-headedness” (aka having one’s head turn into a light bulb). The light-hearted sim tasked players with building and maintaining a hospital hiring and managing medical and administrative staff and treating patients who check into the hospital with fictional, comical diseases. A PlayStation version was released the following year. The original Theme Hospital was released in 1997 for PC. The pair later worked at Lionhead Studios, which Webley helped co-found, on Black and White and Fable. Co-founder Gary Carr added: “The amazing team we have managed to bring together, and our partnership with Sega, has really allowed this first part of our vision to finally come to fruition.”Ĭarr and Webley worked together at British studio Bullfrog on titles like Theme Park and Theme Hospital. “Gary and I have been talking about this project for a number of years and are really excited to be announcing Two Point Studios’ first game,” said Mark Webley, co-founder of the studio, in a release. Sega is publishing Two Point Hospital, which is bound for Windows PC via Steam later this year. Named Two Point Hospital (after their new company, Two Point Studios), the hospital sim aims to bring back the “humor, charm and replayability” of its inspiration. Two of the original creators behind beloved hospital management sim Theme Hospital, Gary Carr and Mark Webley, are working on a modern spiritual successor to that game. ![]()
